Modern Mouthpiece for Michael Brecker play

To obrtain MB tone and high speed phrase, many people are trying various mouthpieces, I guess.

MB himself had used many kinds of mouthpieces.
What are remarkable MB's MPCs ? -- Obviously these two. Dukoff and Guardala.

Until 70-80's Brecker Bros. era, MB used Dukoff. After the middle of 80', he changed to Guardala.

Dukoff has a dry tone, (with few harmonic wave) a iittle bit peaky which is maybe caused by the material.
The buffle shape and the narrow rail enable bright and speedy phrases.
However, this old Dukoff is also known to have an individual difference.
Guardala is so to speak, inproved Dukoff.

By the way, MB fan may love to use similar mouthpiece.
Present Dukoff is different from the old one. Today, it is difficult to get old Dukoff in a good condition. But, we can get good moutpieces instead of old Dukoff.

As for Guardala, as you know, the price of handmade is not the price of a mouthpiece any more.
Fortunately, many MPCs are available to get, if you look for a MPC like Guardala in the reasonable price.

Guardala MB (Vintage)	USA	no image (i do not have)	MB's MPC was that without step on buffle. Replica model is called MBI. I have tried to get sevral times. But finally, I gave up. (The price is unbelievable.) MBが実際に使用していたものはバッフルに段差がないもののようです。 このMPCは何度か試奏しましたが、結局高くて買えませんでした。
Guardala LT MBII (Germany)	Germany		Buffle shape is like Super King. Coating fnish is better than that of made in USA.  バッフル形状はスーパーキングと同様の形状。仕上げはかなり良いと思います。
Guardala LT MBII (USA)	USA		Very good in a reasonable price. More difficult to control a little, comparison to original model. コストを考えると非常に良いMPCだと思います。ｵﾘｼﾞﾅﾙのハンドメイドに較べると、よりピーキーになっていると思います。その分ｺﾝﾄﾛｰﾙが少々難しいのも事実。最近絶版になったという噂もあります。
SR Technology Professional	USA		Great MPC to use like an original MB's Guardala 値段の割によくできたMPCで、後期MBのサウンドを追及するとなれば良い選択ではないかと思います。
SR Technology Fusion	USA		This is good choice to get a tone of MB's Dukoff era. Brecker Bros,時代のデュコフサウンド用には適当なMPCかと思います。
CE Winds Legend 1	USA		CE Winds releases almost same design MPCs of original Guardala CE Windsはほぼガーデラのオリジナルデザインに近いMPCを出しています。

MBプレイのためのマウスピース考

MBの快速フレーズを出すため、MBの音色を得るためにいろいろマウスピースを試した方が多いのではないかと思います。

MBは色々なマウスピースを使っていたようですが、代表的な時代でいうと、80年代以前前期ブレッカーブラザーズ時代まではデュコフ、その後ソロアルバムを出すようになってからのガーデラと大きく２つに分けられると思います。

デュコフはハイバッフルで明るい音色なのですが、その材質からか、倍音成分はそれほど豊かではない乾いた音が特徴です。また、レールが細いことでキレの良い音が可能となっています。
ただし、デュコフは個体差の大きいことで定評がありました。
ガーデラはデュコフの長所を追及しつつ欠点を改良したMPCだと思います。

さて、ファン心理としては、MBが使ったものと同じMPCを使ってMBの音を目指したいところですが、デュコフもガーデラもMBが使っていたものは現在手に入れることができません。
当時のデュコフはビンテージMPCとなっておりますが、もともと耐久性のそれほどない素材だったせいか、わざわざ当時のMPCを大枚はたて買い求める人はあまりいないようです。
一方のガーデラは、もともと高価なモデルであったものがビンテージとなり、今や簡単に手に入れられる値段ではなくなっています。

そこで両者に近い性質をもった比較的手ごろな価格のMPCを探すことになります。
私もいろいろ試しております。
