This time, we check MB style bending.
As we know, the bending is a method to change pitch by adjusting the pressure on reed.
With controlling the lower lip position and the pressure on reed, pitch is altered.
MB also uses a characteristic bending method --- inclining the head.
This can bring uneven reed contact.

In this bending, MB inclines his head to the left.
The upper photo is form the 1970s, the lower is from the 1990s.
Both of he left photo is just before bending, and right one is during bending.

MB dose not only incline, but also turning head to the right a little in order to keep lip position to the mouthpiece.

Only inclining, the mouth separates from mouthpiece as (b).
So, to adjust mouth position on the mouthpiece, he turns the head as (c).

ベンディング

今回はベンディングです。
ご存じのとおり、ベンディングはリードへの圧力を調整してピッチを変えるテクニックです。
通常は、下唇の位置を下げてリードへの圧力を下げることでピッチダウンをかけるわけですが、MBには時折見せる特徴的なベンディングがあります。
それが頭を傾けるというやり方です。
これによってリードへの圧力は片あたりとなりピッチが下がるようです。
頭を傾ける方向は常に左ですね。
単に首を支点に傾けるだけでなく、頭全体は少し右を向くようです。
これはマウスピースの位置を動かさないために必要な動きでしょう。
上の下手なイラストの通り、単に傾けるだけだと（ｂ）のようにマウスピースの位置からはずれてしまいます。
ですので、（ｃ）のように顔を回転させてマウスピースの位置に調整する必要があるからです。
上の写真は1970年代、下の写真は1990年代ですが、あまり変わっていないように見えます。
いずれも左がベンディング直前、右がベンディング中となります。
